Baptism Resources
A service for Holy Baptism integrated within A Service of the Word
This service, which usually lasts a little under an hour, can be used as the
main Sunday morning service. The elements of baptism are woven into the service,
and movement can be used to symbolise Christian community, commitment, and
journey: at the beginning,
introducing the candidates to the congregation; a little later for the parents and
godparents to make public declarations on behalf of the candidates, and then to
move together to the font. An abbreviated form of the Commission is included. In
prayer we are all reminded of our Christian journey and baptismal life. At the end of the service the newly baptised (and
parent/sponsor./godparent) are invited to receive a candle, lit from the paschal
candle. The service includes optional texts for adults / older children. There is an appendix
of hymns and songs, to enable singing with movement within the service without
the need for extra
books and leaflets. The downloadable text below is in the form of PDF files,
which can be printed, folded and stapled. There are separate files for the
cover, to make it easier to produce this on card.
There are four files, two for the main text and two for the cover (the cover
is a single side of A4, folded; the text makes up a sixteen page A5 booklet).
